Twentyeight Health Launches Spanish Language Telehealth Services for Birth Control

NEW YORK, November 16, 2021 — Twentyeight Health, a telehealth company increasing access to sexual and reproductive care for women from underserved communities, today announced that the company has launched Spanish language services.

“According to Planned Parenthood, 57% of Latina women ages 18-34 have struggled with the cost of prescription birth control — and it’s our mission to bring this number down to zero,” said Amy Fan, co-founder of Twentyeight Health. “In working with thousands of individuals over the last few years whose native language is Spanish, we saw a clear need to expand beyond our English-based text, audio, and messaging services.”

A 2021 study in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine shows that affluent Americans living in urban areas use telehealth in the greatest numbers. In contrast, Twentyeight Health was named to the Forbes Next 1000 for "provid[ing] low-income women access to affordable reproductive healthcare." More than 50% of Twentyeight Health’s users are on Medicaid, and 63% were not taking birth control prior to using Twentyeight Health’s telehealth and birth control delivery service.

“Even though Spanish is one of the most widely-spoken languages in the U.S., with more than 40 million U.S. residents speaking Spanish at home, a Health Affairs study published in 2021 shows that Spanish speakers receive approximately one-third less care than other Americans,” said Bruno Van Tuykom, co-founder of Twentyeight Health. “The Spanish language services we’re launching today will further increase access to sexual and reproductive care for millions of people across the country.”

Twenyeight Health’s Spanish language services include:

• Spanish language website: Twentyeight Health’s Spanish language website features doctor-vetted articles about everything from reproductive health to sexually transmitted infections to birth control options, FAQs about Twentyeight Health’s services, and information about different birth control methods that Twentyeight Health offers.
• Doctor telehealth visits and ongoing care: Twentyeight Health is rolling out telemedicine visits and ongoing messaging with Spanish-speaking doctors in Texas and Florida, with plans to expand availability to all states where Twentyeight Health is operational over the next year.  
• Customer phone, text and email support in Spanish: All of Twentyeight Health’s users will be able to access customer support by phone, text and email in Spanish. This includes providing information about their deliveries and support navigating their insurance.

Twentyeight Health is launching its Spanish Language services at a time of significant growth for the company. In 2021, Twentyeight Health expanded its operations to states across the Midwest, West Coast, and Southern United States, and is now available in 30 states and serving tens of thousands of people.
